Study on the Synthesis of p-Amino Benzoate

Abstract
|

|
Ethyl p-amino benzoate can be prepared by reduction of the corresponding nitro
compoind, or by esterification of p-amino benzoic acid; 274g of p-aminobenzoic acid is added .to 1.4 kg of ethyl alcohol which has been saturated with hydrogen chloride gas.
The reaction mixture was refluxed for twenty-four hours, poured into water, neutralized with sodium carbonate, and the insoluble ester was separated by filtration. The theoretical yield was 80 percent.
